Chair of the Ra'anana Committee for the Environment Vered Molko recently convened a meeting of the city engineer, the head of the engineering department, and the chairman of the city Planning and Building Committee to discuss the matter of asbestos in buildings, reports Al Hasharon.
"We don't have any formal lists of the buildings which used asbestos, and something must be done. I don't think that it's necessary to destroy existing buildings, if they are not damaged, but from today, we will not allow the continued use of asbestos," Molko said.
"The problem is with cracked asbestos, when fibers fly into the air. There can be no doubt that this is dangerous for anyone in the vicinity," she said. |
