Health group plays down asbestos fears
Wednesday, 29 September 2004
Echuca Regional Health has moved to put to rest concerns about staff and the public being exposed to asbestos.
The Health Services Union is worried about health risks from demolition works planned for new theatres at the hospital.
But Echuca Regional Health's acting chief executive, Shaun Eldridge, says the area will be treated as a construction site and staff and public will not be allowed access.
He says asbestos will be removed according to occupational health and safety regulations.
"We're happy to put that in writing for them, so that'll be something that we'll do and if they request that we meet with them face-to-face we don't have any problems with that, we'll be discussing the matter with them anyway," he said.
