Workers sent home while asbestos is replaced

Workers from the Dux Hot Water factory at Moss Vale were sent home on Thursday while asbestos sheeting on the site was replaced.
A Dux employee said he and other workers became concerned when they saw contractors working on buildings on the site wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus.
The employee said staff had not been warned that the work was being undertaken or issued with protective clothing.
Workers did not become aware that the work was in progress until lunchtime.
Dux general manager Les Patterson said seven buildings on the site were constructed of Super Six sheeting.
The site was formerly owned by James Hardie.
Mr Patterson said when any work required penetration of the Super Six sheeting, the sheeting was replaced with fibreglass sheeting using a licensed asbestos removal contractor.
