Less than month ago small colour bond fences went up at the Tenterfield Childcare Centre to replace an old paling fence that stood between the childcare centre and the soon-to-be demolished council asbestos fence.
"The colour bond fences were part of overall renovations at the Childcare Centre," said secretary of the management committee Angela Brown.
Other renovations included a modification of playground equipment and the newly built pre-school facilities. The fences in question run the length of the pre-school room dividing the centre from the council carpark.
The centre's paling fence was old, had a rough ledge and was removed as a protective measure Ms Brown said.
As for the suggestion the asbestos fence was in close contact with children the committee believe that is untrue.
"In fact there had always been another boundary fence between the childcare centre and the council fence," Ms Brown said.
Mrs Brown also said committee members requested the council install gates in the new fence so parents and deliverers could gain easier access to the centre.
