Union moves for greater school asbestos awareness

The Australian Education Union says parents and teachers need to be aware of the extent of asbestos in school buildings.
Darwin's Nakara Primary School library was closed last week after an asbestos scare but testing revealed no airborne contamination.
Northern Territory Schools general manager John Dove says any materials suspected to be asbestos have been labelled in all schools built up to the mid-1980s.
Mr Dove says this labelling is also in the process of being checked again by the Education Department's facilities unit.
But Education Union spokeswoman Nadine Williams says the Government needs to raise public awareness of the potential dangers of disturbing asbestos.
"It seems to me that there's a real gap in the information that people have and the awareness ... people who do this work and work in these places, public buildings, schools, of the risk of asbestos. It is everywhere," he said.
